The European Voluntary Service
Since 1996 the European Voluntary Service (EVS) has provided young Europeans – aged 16 to 30 – a working residence abroad in context of a non-profit project between two weeks and 12 months. EVS is free of charge for participants and is funded by the European Union. Funding includes travel and accommodation expenses and an allowance for the duration of the project. The programme is supplemented by seminars and courses for the volunteers. Not only EU member states are eligible for the EVS. The following overview lists all countries in which a working residence is possible: overview. A large number of non-profit institutions from the social and cultural sphere, from sports and the environment, support the EVS programme. Together, through collaboration and their projects, these institutions enable committed participation. In each of the countries involved, national agencies provide information about EVS. The EVS in its current form runs until the end of 2013. The form of an intended follow-up programme is currently being discussed at the European level.
